High Desert Community Quilters
Oak Hills, California

January 2025
Several members demonstrated quilt techniques to get us ready for the new sewing year. Members were reminded of how to, and the importance of, squaring quilt blocks; how to use your rulers correctly; how to quilt as you go; how to measure tops for non-wavy borders; and how to do flip and fold binding. Everyone seemed to have learned something new!
February 2025
Mary Jones brought the block for us to work on, today. It was from a Missouri Star pattern called Spring Twist. She used an adorable 'bug' print for the center strip. Some young kid is going to love this quilt! We got all 72 blocks made for her to take home and sew the rows together. We all can't wait to see what the finished quilt looks like as it is going to be a cute one!
March 2025
This month Jackie Morgan surprised us with a large 24" block in bright colors that will make a fast and easy quilt top. There will most likely be several of this block pattern show up in quilts this year!
April 2025
2025 is proving to be a busy year for our little Guild. We installed a new President and 1st Vice President for our fiscal year. Many, many, many thanks to Mary Jones for her dedication that got us smoothly into a new meeting place plus getting us through many other obstacles. Her level-headedness and cheerful demeanor have been appreciated by all. Meri Walker is now taking the reins. We are all sure that she will have ideas and bring leadership to keep us moving forward.
Kathy Burns is replacing Meri Walker as 1st VP. Kathy will be overseeing our monthly blocks and will be putting together our Challenges and other programs. She is well known for having good ideas and having a good eye for color. We all look forward to her leadership. Check out Kathie's next Challenge for us on the drop-down menu under the Member Info tab!!

This Guild's primary goal is to make quilts for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept Gift of Love program. Susan McClellan who collects, rolls, and stores quilts that we make each month, reported that we are over halfway to this year's goal! We have 88 quilts out of the 165 needed that are ready to go! This is in addition to the quilts going to the Homeless Shelter and to Seniors!! Each month, she will be rolling quilts at the meeting and adding to the count. There will be labels at the meeting for you to sew on or to take home.
